Jim Faherty

Jim Faherty started his career in the education industry in 2005, teaching English in southern China. After completing a degree in Mandarin Chinese at SOAS University of London, he started working at the University of Liverpool in a student recruitment and admissions role. After moving to a similar role in Goldsmiths, University of London, Jim prepared to switch to the 'other side of the desk' by completing a graduate diploma in Counseling Psychology, and soon after, began working at ISF Academy in Hong Kong, a prestigious bilingual independent IB school. After weathering the storm of the pandemic in Hong Kong, Jim moved to Bali, Indonesia, where he is currently the high school counselor at Green School Bali. Jim supports over 130 students in high school, including the Local Scholarship recipients - Balinese students who receive full funding - and provides guidance on post-secondary pathways options and access to higher education funding. Jim sits on Green School's Board of Learners as the international teacher representative.

Jim recently completed his Masters in Integrative Counseling at Leeds Beckett University, and in 2023 co-presented on the topic of 'The impact of AI in college admissions counseling' at the International ACAC conference. He is currently co-authoring a chapter for an upcoming Handbook of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education, due to be published in early 2025. Jim relishes the chance to work closely with young people and help them find best fit opportunities that align with their personal values. A natural empath, Jim loves listening to each individual's unique story and perspectives, and how their journey has shaped their worldview.
