Izzet Sengel

Izzet Sengel has been working as a counselor in high schools for 12 years. He started his career as a counselor at the prestigious Robert College, one of Turkey’s top national schools, in 2007. Izzet has a master’s degree in community development and planning from Clark University. After finishing this degree, he worked as a counselor and community involvement program coordinator at Robert College for four years. While there, he co-authored a textbook on service learning. Since 2007, he has been working at the American School of Doha (Qatar) as a comprehensive high school counselor. He has significant experience helping students navigate the college application process to multiple destinations: USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, S. Korea, Turkey, the Middle East and Europe.

He has been a volunteer counselor with The Amala Project, which focuses on refugees, which is a population where only 3% of students have access to tertiary education. A strong advocate for community development and education, Izzet believes young people can have a meaningful impact on their physical and social environments if they are guided to become responsible global citizens. Izzet was recently recognized as the “Counseling Mentor of the Year” by the IC3 Movement, a peer-nominated honor awarded to an expert counselor and demonstrated mentor.
