Erin Slocum

Erin Slocum serves as the Head of Selection and a pro bono guidance counselor with Second Chance. As a former admissions officer at the University of Rochester, she has expertise in identifying and nominating exceptional international students for competitive financial aid awards in highly selective university admissions. With her combination of systems thinking and passion for access work, she brings insight, clarity, integrity, and energy to the team. An international education professional with 10 years of experience, Erin has worked in schools in the US, S. Korea, and Singapore, supporting students through the international admissions process. She is passionate about increasing access to education for high achieving international students from low income backgrounds.

Within the larger industry, Erin volunteers on the International ACAC’s Inclusion, Access and Success Committee, which provides mentoring and professional development opportunities to college counselors from under-resourced schools around the world. She is also a volunteer mentor in both the International ACAC Mentor Year Program and the University of Rochester Alumni Association, and she devotes her time as a pro bono college counselor with the Matchlighters Scholars Program in the US.

Erin currently works at Tanglin Trust School, a British school in Singapore, where she is a University Guidance and Careers counselor supporting students with their global higher education applications. To this role, she brings insight and deep experience in highly selective admissions, having previously worked at the University of Rochester in International Admissions. At the University of Rochester, Erin worked with students from 100+ countries and a wide range of socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. She participated in the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for 2 years as an English Teacher in S Korea, and served as an Americorps Member for 1 year through City Year Boston.
